§ Normally, this is around the time I would start germinating tomato and pepper seeds indoors but I’m still not planning to grow any nightshades this year.

So far, it has rained every day this month. It is still a bit early but I think I’m going to try direct-sowing some beans and peas once the rain slows down.

§ During a break in the rain earlier this week I saw my first bee of the season—one lone bumblebee.

§ As my dinner tracking experiment continues, I think it will be interesting—to the extent that it is at all interesting—to look at how trends in the data change seasonally.

Throughout last winter, I cooked 86% of meals at home. 16% of those were American food, 25% East Asian, and 29% were Mexican. I’m anticipating that the percentage of “American” meals will increase quite a bit throughout the spring and summer as I begin grilling more.

A few of my favorite new recipes this season:

I hope you appreciate just how much sourdough-related content I’ve resisted writing about here.

§ On Monday afternoon, something compelled me to actually read an obvious phishing email purporting to come from Stripe. Typically, I immediately archive any obvious spam that makes its way into my inbox. I still don’t know why I decided to open this one.

Against all odds, it was actually a legitimate email from Stripe informing me that I had somewhere in the ballpark of one-and-a-half-MacBook’s worth of money sitting in my account from almost a decade ago.

How is it that I completely forgot about this account? Why do real Stripe emails look so much like spam? I still find the whole experience baffling.

§ At work I got a nice new inkjet photo printer so I spent the week in a marathon of printing, matting, and framing dozens of photographs for an upcoming project.

If my past experience is any indication, it is only a short matter of time until the printer gunks up and dries out and generally becomes a nightmare to use. The goal is to get all of the necessary printing done before that starts.

§ Speaking of procrastination, this is embarrassing but I finally sent out all of the thank you cards for my wedding eight months ago. We threw in a bunch of cute postcard-sized photos from our honeymoon so I hope that helps make up for the delay, at least a tiny bit.

§ I updated my blogroll for the first time since last March. This time, I added a list of all of the folks I know that publish weeknotes and daily notes. Check it out.

A collection of photographs, including scenic landscapes and city views, is scattered on a table alongside a sheet of colorful stamps.A room displays multiple framed black-and-white photographs on the walls and around the floor, with a desk, printer, and a clear chair.
