§ Monday was Caroline’s and my two-year anniversary. I took off work and we spent a nice relaxing day together. For dinner we went back to the boat shaped restaurant we ate at last year while the in-laws watched the baby.
§ Thursday was Caroline’s birthday. We woke up to the city blanketed by smoke from the Canadian wildfires. We were looking forward to spending the day outside but this changed our plans drastically.
The smoke didn’t fully dissipate until Saturday. It made me appreciate how much it must of sucked to live in a large city during the Industrial Revolution.
§ I was so excited about all of the beans I planted however it seems like they did not take to our recent heat wave particularly well. We haven’t had new fruit or flowers in a couple of weeks and most of the lower leaves are sad and yellow. I’m sure this week’s wildfire smoke isn’t going to help at all in this regard either.
§ Now three months old, baby Kieran has started showing interest in his toys. Mostly he wants to put them in his mouth but it’s been a fun development to watch nonetheless.
§ Just in time for season two, I caught up on the first season of Ludwig. It’s David Mitchell as a puzzle constructor turned reluctant detective. The perfect kind of low-stakes evening drama.
§ Yesterday my dad came over to take wet-plate collodion photographs of the family. It is a fascinating process to watch but it’s also very difficult to keep a newborn still for the long exposures.
