§ This week brought the first few ripe blackberries and tomatoes of the season. The Cherokee purple and San Marzano plants are both growing really well but I noticed a number of their larger fruits are suffering from blossom end rot. It’s not unexpected but still disappointing.

§ On Thursday I harvested a big pile of fresh green coriander seeds from the rest of my bolting cilantro plants. I also finally tasted the cilantro capers I started brining a few weeks back. They taste exactly how you would expect: intensely of coriander, vinegar, and salt. I’m just hoping they mellow out with age. In the meantime I’m not planning to make any more with the coriander I just picked. So far the plan is to just keep them in the freezer as a substitute for fresh cilantro leaves.

§ I finally got around to starting Widow’s Bay. It’s no Twin Peaks but I understand the comparison and let’s be honest, I’ll watch almost anything with Matthew Rhys in it.

§ Yesterday Caroline, Kieran, and I went to the Cain Park Arts Festival where we ran into an old art teacher of ours. It was nice to catch up with him.

§ Next week is a big week. Monday is our two year wedding anniversary, on Tuesday Kieran will be three months old, and Thursday is Caroline’s birthday.
