§ Tuesday was the ribbon-cutting of a new permanent early childhood exhibition gallery I’ve been working on for the past two years. It is such a joy to see people finally interact with something that for so long only existed as an idea in my head.

§ Tuesday was also the end of the third quarter so it’s time for another one of my quarterly meal tracking reports. Here is the Q3 chart. If you don’t remember, here was Q2 and Q1.

As time goes on I’m seeing decreasing usefulness from this kind of meal tracking so I don’t expect to continue it into next year. I’ll certainly finish up this year, though.

A few of my favorite new recipes this quarter included:

  • On a whim, I cooked lamb for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was shockingly easy and flavorful.
  • Harissa roast pumpkin with tahini sauce will single-handedly ensure that I grow pumpkins again next year.
  • I’ve never been the biggest fan of fish but this fish taco recipe turned out great. We subbed out the tilapia for cod.

§ TV medical dramas have never really been my thing but after listening to the most recent episode of Search Engine I watched The Pitt. The show honestly started off pretty weak but hooked me as it progressed through an increasingly hectic fifteen-hour shift in a Philadelphia ER ward. I’m looking forward to the next season.

§ Afterwards I started watching the first season of Twin Peaks for what could easily be the fifth time. It’s truly the perfect ‘default’ show and is eminently quotable. I’d be hard-pressed to think of any other series with as unique and cohesive sense of atmosphere. The music, dialog, set design, cinematography, and acting all come together to create a piece of visual media unlike anything else, before or since.

§ It was a good week for music with new albums by Geese and Molly Nilsson. Both albums represent very different vibes but they are both great nonetheless.

I have to say I’m a little disappointed that the new Geese album traded the Zappa-like, almost manic energy of their previous album for more subdued Clap Your Hands Say Yeah-style crooning. It feels less unique at first glance but maybe I just need to give it a few more listens.

§ Yesterday was busy. In the morning Caroline and I attended a workshop where we learned how to make paper from scratch using a variety of different invasive plant species. It turns out Caroline has some kind of preternatural talent for paper making. She was quickly churning out pages that were so perfect and uniform that I think the instructor was starting to feel a bit jealous. My paper, on the other hand, was extremely subpar. We balance each other out.

Later in the afternoon we attended a cousin’s wedding reception downtown. The venue was breathtaking and historic. The wedding itself was lovely.
