§ This afternoon Caroline and I will be heading to the airport to begin our long awaited visit to Ireland. I can’t wait.

§ I’ve been finding myself more attuned recently to all of the noisy summer insects we have here in Ohio: the cicadas, crickets, and katydids. They aren’t a fixture of Ireland’s colder climate. What will a clear summer night sound like there? Will I even register the absence, once it’s gone?

§ I have to admit that keeping quails has made the logistics of traveling a lot trickier. Asking someone to watch your cats is one thing, asking them to take care of your strange small birds is an entirely different caliber of favor. My mother-in-law took one for the team, in this case. This all factors into—but admittedly doesn’t fully negate—my desire to own goats one day.

§ So what else happened this week? Mostly just a lot of anxious impatient puttering.

§ On Thursday afternoon my kitchen faucet spontaneously started leaking, sending a small but consistent stream of water downstairs into my basement. On the bright side, I’m glad it happened now rather than after I was out of the country.

§ Okay, I think that’s all I have for now. I better get going. See you in Dublin!
