§ Last Sunday I stopped by the Apple Store to check out the new iPhone Duo. It seems really fun and the hardware feels great. It is also really expensive!
I would be lying if I said I don’t feel an annoying urge to buy one. With that said, it certainly doesn’t seem like a good way to achieve my goal of using my phone less.
§ On Tuesday I voted in the November midterm elections. I couldn’t be more happy with the results nationwide and in Ohio in particular. It has been a while since I’ve felt this optimistic about the direction of the country.
§ I read Vaim by Jon Fosse. A very short read that would make for a good introduction to his very particular style of writing. Dreamlike and comedic. Steam of consciousness over-analysis.
The english translation of the second book in this series Vaim Hotel was just released. I’m looking forward to starting it soon.
§ Andy Stott released his first new album in five years—Late Loop.
I’ve always thought that Stott’s best music sounds like something that would play at a grimy, neon-drenched nightclub in Twin Peaks. This new album is more stripped down than ever and even less conceivably danceable.
Maybe it is just because they both have black and white album art but Late Loop seems to be imbued with a similar atmosphere as Kali Malone’s new album I mentioned last week. It is slow and sparse and cold but oddly intimate. Another good autumn listen.
If you’re not familiar with Stott’s particular blend of electronic production I would suggest skipping the first track “Cold welcome” and starting with “Something in mind”. It makes for a far gentler introduction.
