§ A week of almost nonstop rain forced me inside to finally tidy up, rearrange a bit, and hang up some artwork I’ve been neglecting for way too long.
§ At work I’ve finally started getting back into the swing of creating things—building little prototypes with my hands. It has been re-energizing.
- I started building what will eventually become a spinning water maze
- I made two different versions of a Tesla valve: one that rotates and another, much bigger one, that is air-activated
- I started on an early prototype of a demonstration macro-scale water filtration apparatus
- I also tried projection mapping directly onto a real 1970s Skylab command module
§ I’m learning that creativity isn’t just the act of creating new things. It is fueled by creating new things. This means that if I find myself in a creative rut, it becomes that much harder to build up enough inertia to dig myself out. On the flip side, once I start creating one thing, starting the next becomes that much easier.
§ I’ve passed the two-year streak of completing the Puzzmo crossword every day. Unlike this time last year I feel like my skills have basically plateaued. I nevertheless still get a lot of enjoyment out of playing each day—it has become an essential part of my morning routine.
§ On Saturday I got a haircut for the first time in two months. Way too long of a gap, for future reference.
§ Next week I’ll be in Milwaukee and Chicago for a few days. I’m looking forward to the brief change of scenery.
