§ After work on Monday I visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with a few coworkers. I’m not quite sure I’ve ever visited before despite living in Cleveland for most of my life. I mean, it is one of the few things people generally associate with the city, right alongside our burning river. I’ve found there is a certain contrarian Clevelander pride in not visiting the Hall of Fame. I have to admit, though, it was pretty cool.
§ The new Apple operating system updates were released this week. My iPhone has been on the iOS 26 beta all summer but I’ve been waiting for the official release to update my MacBook even though I’ve been pretty excited for the changes to Spotlight in particular.
After a few days of use, I honestly quite like the new design as a whole. I will admit that if you look close enough, you’ll find a few dead canaries but I’m cautiously optimistic that details like these will get polished over time.
How about those Spotlight updates that I was so excited about? They’re improvements, for sure, but less immediately impactful than I anticipated. They’ll probably add up as a number of tiny quality-of-life tweaks that I discover and adopt over time.
§ Our maple trees are starting to drop their leaves. One benefit to no longer having the huge old oak tree in our yard is that it should make leaf-raking much less onerous.
On Wednesday the tail end of civil twilight fell before 8:00pm for the first time this season. This might just become my new personal marker signaling the beginning of autumn. In a few short months it will be dark before 6:00pm and I’ll dearly miss sunlight but for now I’m quite enjoying the chilly evenings.
§ I generally have pretty low expectations for new Netflix series’ but Black Rabbit was actually pretty good. If you like watching Jason Bateman stressed and in trouble—à la Ozark—that is basically the entire premise of this show. Recommend.
§ On Saturday I drove an hour south to Massillon—a tiny Ohio town that punches above its weight in the arts—for the closing reception of my dad’s art exhibition. It was really interesting to see. I also loved the colorful and exuberant multimedia exhibition on the museum’s first floor.
